Prevention methods for hail losses are hail nets which are placed above the crops with appropriate installations. They are used especially for protecting perennial crops of high value like fruits and when a constant market supply is essential. Disadvantage is besides the relatively high investment costs the shading effect with a loss of radiation of some 10%.
